I love the cartooniness and prettyness of these movies so I wondered what you guys thought!
My fav lies between my neighbour totoro and princess mononoke- I love them both for differant reasons, but they are both so cute!
Spirited away started it all for me- I watched it for the first time in Zurich- In japanese with german and french subtitles!

My favorite is Spirited Away ^^.
I LOVE the story and the many diverse spirits they created. When I went to see it we actually had to sneak in the theatre! The lady at the desk said that it had been sold out, but it wasn't a crowded night or anything. Figuring that it must have been a computer error or something we bought tickets to another movie and just slipped in the Spirited Away Theatre instead. Sure enough, the theatre was nearly empty!

It's either Spirited Away or Grave of the Fireflies. Spirited Away was amazing! And it reminded me of Alice in Wonderland, which I also love. But Grave of the Fireflies was just... no other movie has ever made me feel so sad. It was a work of art.

grave of the fireflies was so sad and beautiful, though the fact that you know that the ending will be sad kinda helped for me- at least i knew what was coming.
It was so beautifully written and you could really understand the viewpoints of the people in it, from the lil girl, to her brother to the auntie (who seemed a bit evil).
I cried too :(

I can't pick a favorite Ghibli film...they are all so beautiful. I've only seen Kikki, Mononoke, Spirited Away, and Howl's Moving Castle, but I love them all.

I've only seen Spirited Away all the way through, but they all look to be so beautiful and engaging. You just feel like you've fallen into a totally new world.

I've seen most of the Ghibli films and I have to say that Spirited Away and Totoro are my favorites. Pom Poko was pretty crazy and fun- I saw a badly subbed version with some funny subtitles- plus I think it's a goofy film in general, but still very touching. Chihiro is an awesome heroine and some little asian girls will always be "Mei" to me. It's so cute, we got my 3 yr old cousin saying "Is it lunchtime yet?" when she plays with the Totoro toys we got her.
I have to admit I was a little disappointed with Howl, but I think it's because Miyazaki had the book to work with so the plot was a little wonky.

The Cat Returns was really funny, with a spectacularly grand catgentleman in a suit. Kiki's Delivery Service was also v. pretty and uplifting (esp. the black cat and that lady with all the crows). However, Totoro will forever be my all time favorite!
