Shonen Manga Anyone?

Ok, this might sound strange, but do any of you girls read shonen manga? Like for example Black Cat, Shaman King, Or Bleach? I mean, I love Shoujo manga but there's always a time in my life where you need some action and explosions! KAPOW! WAPOW!

Well -ahem- anyway, if you do, post your favorite shonen titles here! I hope not to be the only girl who likes Black Cat! While i'm waiting, I'll read Black Cat Volume 3!

Honestly? I love shonen manga. I liked it before I even liked shojo manga! I love Bleach too, but I've never heard of Black Cat. What's it about?

Well, It's from shonen jump, and it's about these two guys named Sven and Train (train is the manin character here) and they bust down the criminals and do stuff like that... I'm not good at explaining but I can tell you there are 3 volumes out for now and there 7.99 each. Go buy them or check your local library! No wait, don't try your library, cause when I do all I get is Zodiac P.I, Card Captors, and Neon Evagleion something something (I hate that title can't pronounce it)

I LOVE shonen manga!! Is it wierd that I love Yu-Gi-Oh! ? I was a faithful reader to Shonen Jump ever since it first publicated. Though, I'm quite disappointed the way Shonen Jump is today, than the way it was when it first started... :(

:D I love Bleach!!! So many cute boys and Rukia is a good strong female charecter. My boy friend go get volumes 4-10 for Hannukah and a Renji plushie. I can't wait for the next one to come out, they left volumes 13 on a cliffhanger. I also wonder who will be on the cover, it was Kenpachi on vol 13. But their not going in order of the team Captains numbers. I think it's Hanataro, who's just so cute. I can't wait for Sep 9, it's not only my one year ani with my boy friend, but it's the day Bleach starts on Cartoon Network.

I found in a lot of Shojo manga the female charecter, while she may be the lead, is weak and whiney. That's the quickest way to turn me off a serise. In the anime of Fruits Basket, she was just too weak. In the beginning Tohru seemed strong, but by the end it seemed that if anything went wrong she'd hug them.

With shonen comics even if there's a female as a lead charecter she's not weak and whiney. If you read Naruto, Sakura seems weak in the beginning, but as they get more into the serise she understands that her team mates are portecting her and she steps up. She gets really strong after the time skip, but that's long off coming to the US Shonen Jump.

I have to say, the new serise in Shojo Beat, Vampire Knights, I hope the main female charects stays strong. I love how it looks and it'd be a pitty if she becomes whiney.

i love bleach too! rukia is damn ass awesome! of course, i hate how there are so many, ahem, ample chested characters in that series too...jesus, how can these girls walk with breasts like those?!? but still, the story is addictive. just out of curiousity, who do you think ichigo might be paired up with? i wonder how rukia's going to be saved too.

plus, there are some horrible female characters in shounen manga too. if i had a dime for every time a female character was portrayed as girl crazy, or sweet and innocent, or had no character development at all...le sigh. it all depends on the series you get; theres good and bad female characterizations in both shoujo and shounen--better to avoid generalizations.

on that note, i lurrvv "full metal alchemist" and "death note"! soooo addictive, and my fave shounen series :D

I love Bleach, love Rukia, but I hate Orihime and how they try to justify the fact that she's beautiful and ample chested by making her smart/powerful/kind. It's like, we get it, this girl is perfect, but it still doesn't make her likable.

And I love Hot Gimmick, love Hatsumi, and even though she's a bit of a pushover, I don't think she's weak. Throughout the manga, she pursues the truth about her family and stays true to her belief that people are good. Even though that leads to the male characters to mistreat her, she's strong enough to go through it without really any support from them or her family. Basically, the fate of all of the characters in the manga rests on her shoulders, and even though she isn't perfect, eventually she finds the courage to get what she wants. Her situation was a bit unbelievable, but I do think that she was a rounded character that really has a tougher center than she thought.

And in Fruits Basket, the Sohma family is basically used to being cursed and recieving no love from non-familial members. Tohru is amazing because she teaches them that there are people willing to love them in spite of their flaws.

Both Shonen and Shoujo manga has its strong and weak characters. But I think girls really need to have a dialogue about what these characters truly represent. When I hear people say things like, "Oh, I'm so much like this character," sometimes I wonder if they truly understand what that character is. Like no girl should ever feel as childish and dependent as Chi, even though that's a good manga and even if she wears cool clothes.

Well there ARE some strong characters in shonen, let me nam you some that I like....
1. Rinslet from black cat (she may be pushy at times but she's a bad_A when fighting)
2. Eve from Black Cat (she seems so innocent but watch out for he shape shifting hands! Gahhhh)
3. Anna From Shaman King <KAMIKAZE CHOICE>(Of course she is too hard on Yoh but is VERY strong and never is wimpy)

and Here are my strong heroes from shoujo manga
1. Ichigo or Ichiko from Kamikaze Girls <KAMIKAZE CHOICE> (Is she a whiner? HECK NO! being a former gang member and her personality makes her strong willed and strong in every way possible)
2.Nana Osaki (Like it says in Shojo beat, she's strng and independant, enough said)

and let me name the weak characters of manga (if you plz)
1.Sakura From Naruto (she's a little brat to me but she's strong but yet whiney in every way possible...to me that is)
2.Riiko from Absolute Boyfriend <KAMIKAZE CHOICE>
(Going out with a robot is pretty darn weak to me, I WOULD RATHER GO WITH THE GEEK FOR RIIKO'S SAKE! Besides, she's whiney and only cares for Night. NIGHT NIGHT NIGHT, never cares about a dude who actually likes her... Soshi! THERE'S THE NAME but anyway, she's the weakest of all these low lifers.)

Ino, who's only really interested in boy; Hinata, very shy to the point of being annoying; Ten-Ten, there's a running count of just how many words she has said in the whole serise. I think of Naruto the few strong female charecters were from other countries.

i have to agree with you. everyone seems to dislike sakura, but she's grown up in the last couple of chapters. and for anyone who complains about her obsession with sasuke, they should look at naruto's equally unhealthy obsession with him. she still gets ignored a lot in lieu of sasuke or naruto though.

I used to read tons of commic books... it was all Kapow and stuff..., and I always wished there was more romance involved with things like X-Men, and stuff..... so I like the romance in shoujo offers. I am a bit "Kapow"ed out. I perhaps one day will read shonen, if I can find one that suits me. Once I get sick of romance... I go through phazes. Is there one you can recomend?

Orihime is a D-cup, Kon pointed that out. That's not totaly out of the realm of possiblity. :o I hope not, I'm the same size, I can buy bra's in normal stores. But I understand what you mean. I think you'll find more women in shonen comics with huge chests. I think in Shojo comics you get more realistic sizes because their 8 times out of 10 drawn/written by women, and for girls. I think also the artist know women come in lots of sizes. Like Absolute Boyfriend, Riiko is always spazing on that she thinks she small up top, same for the lead girl in Hot Gimmick(her name escapes me). Think about Lina Inverse from Slayers. There's lots more girls in Shojo comics that aren't happy with themselves.

But since shonen comics are geared to boys they tend to make the girls all big up top.

I actually think a majority of the manga I own is shonen. I like well everything really. I can't really think of a favorite title of mine that hasn't already been mentioned. Oh how about Tuxedo Gin? I don't know if that really classifies as shonen but I kinda think it does.

She is the first pink haired person that I think is cool (when she was younger too.) Shame what happend in Dark Tournament but I was happy the way it turned out at the end of Dark Tournament. For The rest of the show I can't

First they increase Naruto chapters which is getting old to me.
Then they put in BOBOBO-BOBOBOBO (or however you spell it)
Then they take out Shaman King and put in some crappy Yu-Gi-Oh OVA while the real Yu-Gi-Oh series is STILL going and the OVA has big busted ladies and shrimpy guys with small minds.

FYI Kamikaze jen, Shaman King was discontinued in Japan so they really didn't have any more chapters. Either that or it was the least popular series(though i myself like it)

i like some shonen manga. but not a lot of it. because there's always a big breasted chick and ridiculous amounts of fanservice and "how did he get such power?!" statments. >.> I like shaman king and i like a series called Vassalord(which I think is shonen. but it may as well be yaoi XD) Naruto is okay but I've only ever read the Zabuza arc(lol i love haku!) but my favourite shonen manga is Tsubasa Resevoir Chronicles :D

I really like Getbackers, myself. But I'll never be able to read it all...I think it's almost at 40 volumes!! o_o; That's half the reason why I don't read that many shonen manga; they're too long!

Kashimashi is so cute. I read it for the characters and artwork, it's so...sweet. XD
