just thought i'd start a whole new thread about what current books everyone is reading... i have a slight passion for books and i'm reading "The Little White Bird" by J M Barrie... it is written so beautifully... even though i get the impression that he never thought highly of women... but that was the way all men thought in those days... any way i have included a passage from the book to see what you all think...
I had my delicious dream last night. I dreamt that i too was twenty-six, which was a long time ago, and that i took train to a place called my home, whose whereabouts i see not in my waking hours; and when i alighted at the station a dear lost love was waiting for me, and we went away together. She met me in no ecstacy of emotion, nor was i suprised to find her there; it was as if we had been married for years and parted for a day. I like to think that i gave her some of the things to carry.
it is my fav bit in the book and is on the first page :) and my copy is really old and was my grandads which is great because i love old books....
and i will end the ramble with that...

Oh, I've been meaning to read On the Road. My library had already rented it out, though.
Yesturday I finished Slapstick by Kurt Vonnegut. I <3 Vonnegut. He writes the most random things.

I saw this availble for download not too long ago and considered buying it. I think that I'll have to now. :)
I'm always reading a few books at a time, mainly because I tend to bring my books everywhere and then forget them! :) When I left my last job, I had to bring home a box alone of (non-work related) books that I had left at my desk, eep!
Currently:
Lost (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0060988649/), by Gregory Maguire
I've picked up a few of Gregory Maguire's other adult books (Wicked; Mirror, Mirror) for trans-Pacific reading and have always been entertained. When I saw Lost on display last month, I had to get it. I'm enamoured and am taking my time, because I really don't want the book to end. So far, it's one of the few books for which I haven't guessed any of the twists and I hope that the ending proves to be the same.
Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1582344167/), by Susanna Clarke
Clarke's novel on a man's desire to rehabilitate English magic, it's marketed as a Harry Potter for adults, yet it's anything but. It's witty, fanciful, and well-researched -- and it has accurate numbers. ;) As involving as it is, I find myself enjoying it on a different level -- the description of 19th century England's social mores reminds me far too much of my Creole family. More historical fiction than a fantasy novel, if you're up to the task of reading its 800 pages you won't be disappointed.
Serendipities: Language and Lunacy (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0156007517/), by Umberto Eco
I'm a linguist by trade and am a glutton for anything having to do with language. Even Eco's most scholarly works are accessible to those with a mild interest in language, and Serendipities proves to be the same.
uwaa, I'm so verbose sometimes. (^^;
