My current obsession is with a pair of plaited pink falls that I'm making for my little sister, but they are so annoying- I can't make them stay on her head and I'm getting angry.... grrrrr!
I bought synthetic hair ones on a hairband- but i think they need to be on elastic, then I can cover the ends with tights.... and further clues?

They're so fun when they actually stay on, right? :p After about a half-dozen attempts at making them on hair ties, hair bands, hair-a-gami (anyone remember those?!) and clips, I found it easier just to attach them to a strip of medium width black elastic. I sewed them with the longer dreads towards the middle and the shorter ones on the ends with about 2 inches of elastic left free of anything on each end. I also added black braids with metallic blue threads and tied in some silver ankh charms that were from a broken bracelet. (I love using found objects in crafts!) I made two of these. My hair is kind of thick, but I made two high pigtails and secured them with thick black elastic pony o's. Then I tied on the dread falls by folding the entire thing around each pigtail and then knotting the elastic ties tightly under the 1st pony-o. They never really came loose that way but I'd always stick in some hair pins into the base of the monstrosity for good measure ^_<. I also found that a good pair of cyber goggles supported them in the back and kept them from getting jostled around when at concerts ^_<. I have pics somewhere; I guess I'll post them in this thread if I come across them if that helps any. I'm sorry I'm so bad at explaining things! Gomen! ^_^;

Thanks for the advice, I actually managed to get them to stay in with a little help from a pair of tights!...

Okay, this is going to sound really scary, but if you want them to stay in for any amount of time, sew them in. Not to the scalp, mind you, but sew it to the hair, stitching and looping around and pulling it tight. It will feel like she has lots of little pony tails in her hair, and she'll have a serious headache once it comes out (your scalp actually bruises if you wear your hair a certain way too long) but it can stay for a good two weeks.

if you only want then in for a night out or what ever, I used to put a hair stick or something sturdy into top of the falls.
I'd push the pin through the center of the fall, and through the center of the elastic where I tied my real hair up, and let enough sit against the side of my head.
It acts like a kinda bracket and made the falls stay pointing up and not falling flat. That gave my extensions lots of lift whilst I was waiting for my hair to grow.
The ones you made are looking neat, and your sister looks so cute!
