Not all about the super heat of Summer, but it's a great season for berries!!!!
I live fruit better than candy as a rule, and berries are like tiny candy sized fruit right? We have a fridge stocked full of blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, strawberries you name it!
I keep taking berry breaks from work. Any one else love Summer for the fruit?

Oh god, I LIVE for the fruit! There is nothing like fresh berries, a nice ripe juicy peach...not to mention all the wonderful desserts you can make with them! My favorite, blackberry cobblar. 3 layers of flaky pastry filled with yummy layers of sweet and tart blackberries at their best :yum:

I love strawwberries, and my family goes to pick them a few times in early summer, late spring. I used to go with them all the time and eat about half the strawberries I picked. But when I got older I became really sensitive to heat and sun light. I'd only be able to help for half an hour or so and I start to feel sick and dizzy. We tried ice water and a hat with a big brim to keep the sun off me but it never worked. Now I stay home when the go picking and get stuff ready to clean them and start making jam.
I'll have to ask my mother if there's a recipes for the jam she makes, it's sooo good. We make a lot and then give it out at christmas time when you can't get fresh berries and your stuck having store jelly for toast. But after my mother make the jam the house smells like strawberries for a day or two.
Oh yeah, does anyone else remember the kids book about a boy and a bear running through a world of berries picking and eating them. :D There's lots of kids book about berry picking cause when your little if it's a berry you like you end up eating more then you pick for the basket.

Oh man I remember picking berries. Strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, and raspberries. I really DID NOT enjoy that part of the whole thing. There's just nothing like reaching into the bush for that beautiful ripe berry and getting a handfull of garden spider. YUCK!

Oh, I can't wait 'til all the strawberry picking places around here open up! So yummy- and I think they taste best fresh-picked. Must better than from the stores. My mom just bought some cherries, but I can't eat them because I just got my wisdom teeth (all four!) out on thursday, and my mouth doesn't want to open that wide! It's torturous. Hopefully my mouth will get better before everyone eats them all. :yum:

Argh!!!! That's no fun at all, and with cherries in the house, I think that would qualify as cruel and unusual!!!

^^ Haha, thanks everyone. I'm actually feeling pretty good now! I was just showing my friend how wide I can open my mouth today, so if there's any cherries left at home when I get back, they are MINE. ^_^ (Thank god, too; those drugs were making me SLEEPY.)

Pepper and salt on fruit? :o I like my fruit. I like it a lot. But I eat it usually just plain. Here, I used to have orange trees in my backyard so I could just go out and pick an orange whenever I wished. I was skeptical at first because they were not the orangest oranges, but they tasted GREAT! I was later told that the ones you find for sale in grocery shops have coloring in/on them to make them seem healthier and more appealing. But those fresh picked oranges were so juicy and pleasant; juice would run down my arm and collect in small puddles on my lap! :yum: And by the way: Why does everybody like Cherries so much? I mean, I love cherries as much as any fruit. But perhaps it's just because of my username, haha. :D

i like cherries because i just had some cherries not too long ago that were really sweet! ^^ but as a general rule i'm not a huge fan of fruit. and i don't really like strawberries, i always get sour ones! :( i used to go out picking raspberries and blackberries but then they started doing construction to make an expressway right through the place T.T i do like apples though. but they're not berries XD

There are raspberries growing in my backyard; they're delish but it's a bother to pick any since the neighbor has a frightening dog who, despite having seen me a million times over the years, insists on terrifying me with its barking. And then there's the mosquitos!!
I wish my grandmother still lived with me; she kept a lovely garden, which meant yummy strawberries, not to mention a load of fresh vegetables.
Sidenote: Cherries, if they had no pits, would be the greatest fruit of all time, I think!

Wah, I got a nifty new trick I learned at my iron chef compition, it's for making oh so yummy berry infused honey, great for white tea's, ice cream, cakes, waffles, toast and just about anything else you love sweet.
You will need:
1 nonstick frying pan, not cast iron type(ooh that's a sticky cleaning mess)
1 fine mesh strainer or a collander and cheese cloth
1 cup of simple store brand honey(you can use more if you want to make it to store, last a few weeks last time we made it in honey, but it wont stick around long enough, trust me :D )
1/4 cup of fresh berries of your choice(I suggest the kind in season)
First, you'll want to saute the berries at a medium heat to release the colors and flavors of the berries before adding the honey. Crush the berries as you saute. Before they turn to total mush and cook all the way, add the honey and keep mixing. Turn the flame down so as not to burn the honey, but do let it get nice and warm for you. After the color is to where you want it, remove from heat and strain through a seive, fine mesh china cap or colander with cheese cloth. Chill and store in the fridge, and enjoy.
