View Full Version : Ol' Dumbledore is gay

...and then all the fangirls died again.

I really am glad about this, maybe most of it is because of my typical obsession with shoneon-ai and the cute/dramaness of Dumbledore with Ginderwald, and I'm happy she announced it the way she did. It's not part of the story, Dumbledore is mysterious and we're suppose to know nothing about him, including who he loves or dose not love.

I think it's silly to come up with these facts after the series is finished; it's not part of the story at all, it's not mentioned in the books so it's not really relevant. Basically it's good publicity for her "facts book"

Still, it's nice that she's open enough to have a gay character but if their sexuality is never mentioned in the books.. who cares. Fanfic writers do, I suppose.

it's just silly. Sillysillysilly.

Ehh I don't think it is silly; I'm 99% certain that she came up with an extensive backstory for Dumbledore before the series, which included falling in love with Grindelwald, but just never was able to fit it in. It just so happened that a reader asked about Dumbledore's love interest, and she answered truthfully.

I think it's fascinating and rather makes sense when you read about his youth in the 7th book. I can't wait until Rowling comes out with an encyclopedia, or at least I sure hope she does :D

i like how she said it after the books cause its not an important point in the book and if she had mentioned it it would have taken up way too much notice and might have overshadowed the character of dumbledore himself. i like that she said it by the by cause it really isnt such a big deal nor should such things ever be.

I was quite surpirsed, I never really thought of Dumbledore's love-life. Well I did think whether McGonagall liked him...But apart from that, I never thought of old Albus falling in love!

I think that's what Rowling tried to convey when she wrote it. She left stuff out and then told us later because of how it's Harry's story and in most ways we see it though HARRY's eyes. Harry may of thought of Dumbledore and who he loves but wouldn't he of thought about it on the same level as a teenager wondering if Ms.X is married to Mr.Y? He obviously had a close relationship with him but it was Harry's story so who cares what happened to Dean or between DD and GG? I think she told us later because it was like she was telling more about her book and not about what the book is when you look at it though Harry's eyes, the way it is presented. Dose this make sense?

Stating that Dumbledore was gay didn't change the story or anything for me. It didn't change who he was or what he was like. But all my Harry Potter obsessed friends are making gay jokes about him like
"It makes you wonder why Harry went into his office all the time!"
and stupid jokes like that. Oye.

Agreed. It really just explained a lot, and added more dimension to the story.

Wow i wasn't expecting that at all! I'm not sure how the general public will take it. Or at least the General public of 13 year olds. My god almost all 13 year olds are homophobes (It's depressing). I can see people in my grade now saying 'eww' when they find out. Anyway i was surprised by this wow, he doesn't seem gay at all. weird. but i think it's cool that she had a gay Character. It shows she open to that!

I must be the only Non-Homophobic tweenager (9-13 year old), then huh? Everyone else in my school abondoned the book, but I don't give a damn. I'm still the only kid my age to proudly admit that she is a Micheal Jackson and Prince fan. :P

It still.....just sorta creeped me out when I first found out o___o

no I'm one too. 13. i was talking about it with a couple of my friends, and this kid over-heard, and said 'woah, dumbledor is gay. That's gross'. I wanted to smack him. in fact if he hadn't walked away that second, i probably would have.
stupid kids these days...

for everyone who's still middle school age who's says all of their friends are being homophobic...................don't worry it gets better in high school....people are more open minded.......there are things like GSA and we celebrate day of silence

what most people don't realize is that there isn't anything wrong with being gay or whatever.........I mean it's not like they're killing people and wearing their skins while eating their flesh (tried to think of the nastiest and creepiest think I could come up with) I have gay and bi friends and they're coolwe all hang out at GSA and stuff

actually we debated about this a few weeks ago...........most people thought it was weird because she didn't put it in the book but decided to tell everyone afterwards with out any clues leading to it but I really like sukiyume's description on it and found that more realistic

I think it's rather amusing the way she just threw it out afterward. It was like, "Oh, yeah, and Dumbledore's gay." and everyone flipped out. ^.^

Heh, maybe in California...

I'm in college and the kids are just as immature. Seriously, try bringing up the Day of Silence in some small, middle American or southern town. Observe.

Actually a bunch of anti-gay protestors came to my school the day after Day of Silence a few years ago, and we're in Northern California -o-; things...sort of exploded. (my first protest ever. it was sort of awesome :x)

One thing that bothers me is how few straight kids are in our GSA. I mean... it's not the gay alliance, is it?

My school is pretty safe with that kind of thing, though. I've never been made to feel unsafe for being bi, which I don't even think of as a big deal until I realize how much of a problem that is at other schools.

It's the exact same thing at my school! Aside from me, there's one older guy (mid-late 30's). They're always making "breeder" jokes about us...so I usually only go to meetings when my close friends are there. o-o

I guess that's what it feels like to be in the minority.

I really wish she hadn't said anything. Things that aren't in the books should remain speculation. But, I always knew he would be!

It ISN'T silly. It isn't like she had a press release for it. No, someone asked a question, and she answered. She KNOWS her characters, through and through.

My god almost all 13 year olds are homophobes

O.o Yes, alot of them are, but, I am 13, and I can safely identify myself as bisexual. So, I am not a homophobe. xP
