You guys are going to think I am completely insane. I was driving back home from a junk food pickup and I noticed one of the neighbors had his sprinkler on. I went to roll up my car window when I thought I saw a rather big man bending down and pulling weeds or something in the middle of the water! I keep watching and as I come up closer...there is absolutely no one there! WHAT THE HELL??

Huh? You mean to say that you saw a ghost?

Ehhh, Iv'e had stuff like that happen to me a few times. I have no explanation. I think maybe he was a ghost or something.

An old man died in my apartment, when I first moved in I often heard cheerful whistling with no explanation! It has subsided now, and it never really scared me in the first place...I think he was a nice guy.

hehe, ghost? nah, probably just me seeing things. But I swear there was a guy bending over.

Maybe it was the hungry attack getting to me

We're you looking at him dead-on? And was there anything obscuring your view when you saw him?

I'm a total geek when it comes to the paranormal/ghosties/cryptozoology/etc. I had to live at my aunt's house when I first moved to SF about two years ago. The bedroom I slept in turned out to be the most haunted room in the house  which makes me feel kinda jipped, considering she charged me $700/mo. for rent, and flat-out lied to me about my room being totally safe. Hell no. After the first month of living there, weird stuff began to happen, which I passed the stuff off as an overactive imagination, at first. Then it gradually grew worse, and I was unable to sleep without the lights off because I would get this feeling that something malevolent was watching me. I would also hear loud scratching noises often late at night from the adjacent storage room (my room's on the 1st floor, btw, and is right next to the garage and said storage room, while the main rooms are a floor above) and I would find nothing that could potentially cause the noise when I went over to investigate. My bedroom would also get ice cold, despite the weather being hot and humid. Also, the bathroom lights would turn off despite that I was sure that I left them on, and I would always shut the bathroom door before going to sleep only to find it wide open when I wake up (it's the type of door that rolls into a nook in the wall, btw).

It was difficult to find explanations for these happenings, since this stuff almost always happened while I was wide awake. Then my room mate Anthony (who's Tony's cousin) moved in, and he witnessed similar stuff as well. One time he thought I was in the shower, but noticed that the bathroom lights were off, so he went to investigate. I was at school the entire day that day, and the instant he poked his head in the bathroom, the shower turned itself off, and he noticed that it was freshly wet. So he slammed the door shut and hid under the blanket until I got home. There were other occasions when Anthony and I witnessed unusual things happening at the same time, while we were both wide awake. Such as the time the tv turned itself on and off for about ten seconds or so, and the remote was lying on top of the computer desk, untouched. A heavy, short bookcase got knocked over onto its side, as if something invisible rammed into it. We'd both feel pockets of cold air rush past us. We finally had enough during one night while we were watching tv, and the lights began fading on and off repeatedly (the house had new electrical wiring installed recently, too). And the room has the regular light switches, not the fancy dimmer switch dealies. Oh yeah, and stuff would disappear and reappear somewhere else, but that was more of an annoyance. Overall, it was mostly poltergeist activities, but there was something in that room that didn't like us very much.

So yeah, we were like, "fuck this, we're gettin' an apartment!" cuz we were terrified as hell, and we're the difficult-to-scare types of ppl. And so we did, a nice, non-haunted apartment. I'm not too surprised about the hauntings since my aunt's house is quite old (dates back to the late 50s). The overall neighborhood had a similar bad vibe as well, and when I used to take night classes, I was too terrified having to walk home by myself from the bus stop.

San Francisco's one of the most haunted cities in America. With its history of devastating earthquakes and ever-expanding business, construction workers would either rebuild over the dead bodies, relocate bodies outside the city from old cemeteries, or simply knock over the tombstones and build houses and other buildings over the dead. And then you get really pissed off spirits. But that was way back then, and now it's illegal to build over cemeteries without relocating the bodies. It's a horrible thing what the construction workers did, but it's all in the facts.

Colma, which is in the Bay Area metropolis, is literally known as the "City of the Dead" because most of the land there consists almost entirely of cemeteries, and the dead outnumber the living. It's a creepy yet interesting sidenote.

Sorry if I'm ranting and sounding crazy *sweatdrops^^;* I'm just stating my own ghostly experiences.

my mother's house is haunted- it was built in 1768, so it's got a long history. thankfully there isn't a "bad" feeling, just that some other people are around. It's the worst in the hallway, but that would just make sense because it's the most used part of the house. in my old room you could always hear what sounded like a group of people, men mainly, talking softly. The other spot that is busy is the stairs, my mom, stepdad and myself have all heard what sounded like someone walking either up or down the stairs at some point over the years. My mom thought it was me getting up one morning and she was in the kitchen (downstairs) and turned around to talk to me but i was still in bed! A similar sort of thing happened to me as well, i was in one of the upstairs rooms on the computer one afternoon around when my mom would get home. I was typing away and heard someone come up the stairs, so I turned around and called out for mom, but nobody was there. She got home like 15 minutes later! Often our pets would look like they were watching someone/thing move about the house when to our eyes there was nothing there. They (the dogs) usually watch the kitchen, where the entrance to the house is, like someone is coming or going! All kinds of weird stuff, but i think it's very interesting.

one night when i was looking out the window at work, my gaze fell on to this truck. and in the truck sat a man with a rifle pointed at me. i absolutely stopped breathing. i blinked, and suddenly i saw no one in the truck.

i have no idea how that happened.

hmm, maybe I'm not insane then? I have weird things happen all the time. Like I never untie my shoes, but some mornings my laces have been completely undone...or the washing machine lid is open when I know I closed it?

OOOOOO i love this thread!

I haven't had too many experiences personally, but enough that I actually don't worry about it too much...here are mine..

Once when I was about 16 I was at my grammas house watching TV late at night. Only she and I were in the house. The livingroom was adjacent to the hallway, and the door to the hall was open into the livingroom(where I was)
I felt...nature's call. I was thinking about getting up to use the potty, when I heard my gramma shuffle into the restroom and shut the door(it's an old house so you can hear it). So I waited...and waited...and waited to hear her come out(I would have heard her walk back down the hall, as i had to GO at that point!)finally I got worried, and walked about 10 feet to check things out. No one had been in there. Door was open, toilet not running....My Grandfather died in that house.

Also when i was about 16 I was home alone(different house) and doing my peedely little chore of dumping all the wastebaskets. When I opened the door to my parents room, I saw a figure lying across my parents bed. I shut the door immediately, and didn't really think about it that much after that. Later I found out that someone committed suicide in that house.

I am a thrift store maniac, so sometimes I wonder if I am just kind of used to the presence of spirits around me...like immune or something.

I love everyones stories! More! More! :D

Interesting ghost stories you guys have! Yes, more stories! I have one more!

Just this May, Anthony and I went to Jacksonville, Florida where we stayed at his mom's house for about three weeks. For those of you who live in Florida or have visited it at one point, you all know that a lot of the areas are swampy. His mom's backyard has a pond (there are no fences, btw), and several people have drowned in it during the last several decades. Anyway, the previous owners of the house was owned by an elderly couple who used to have a daughter named Jenny. She drowned in that pond back in the late 40's when she was about 16 or so, and has been haunting the house ever since. Before the couple moved, they had a new den built onto the house, so that their daughter's ghost couldn't haunt that part.

Anthony and I stayed in his old bedroom, which also used to be Jenny's old bedroom. Anthony's mom hasn't repainted his bedroom door yet, so Jenny's message was still scrawled on the back of it: Jenny lives here forever. Normally, she usually haunts the hallway, and on a few occasions, the old livingroom, but there were a few occasions when Anthony as well as her step-sisters saw her in his bedroom. One was when Anthony woke up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom, he saw her apparition walk out the door. Second was when he and his step-sister Tammy saw Jenny standing outside the window. Everything was a fuzzy outline except her eyes, which was creepy. Third was when Anthony's other step-sister slept in his bedroom shortly after he moved out. While she was sleeping, she was thrown out of bed and a voice yelled, "GET OUT!!!" She ran like a bat out of Hell and never slept in there again.

Back to the main story. Anthony and I slept in his bedroom comfortably during our stay. Except on the last night for me, that is. I just finished showering, brushing my hair, lalalaaa. I stepped out into the hallway to find that all of the lights have turned off. Out of the corner of my eye to the right, just a few yards away, I saw the skirt of Jenny's dress as well as her right forearm, but I didn't want to look directly at her. Instead, I hauled ass down the hall as best I could without cutting my feet on the new tiles (there wasn't grout holding them in place at the time). The door ahead of me had a new coat of highly glossy varnish, so I saw the glow of Jenny's outline following close behind me as I ran. When I bursted into Anthony's bedroom, I slammed the door shut and locked it. Noticing my reaction, he was like, "Ghost followed you?"

It was unnerving, but I wasn't quite frightened. It was more like that paranoid feeling one gets when someone's following them. There is one other ghost in the house, and Anthony's mom and stepdad suspect there might me more, but they're not sure. Whenever they had guests sleep in the old livingroom, said guests claimed they heard several voices whispering, and they usually get the unsettling feeling that something's lurking in the dark corners.

There are a couple of other incidents concerning Anthony's step-sister Tammy. She woke up one night to find an outline of a woman's apparition approaching her bed and stared down at her, so Tammy pulled her blanket over her head and prayed until dawn. Another incident was when she woke up to find the ghost of a policewoman embracing her, crying. Tammy passed out from this.

GAAHHHH!!!! your Jenny story scared the CRAP out of me! you told it really well too. The most terrifying parts were the part about her eyes being in focus, but everything else blurry, and seeing her skirt and forearm but not wanting to look at her.

Thats the same feeling I had when I saw the figure on my parents bed..for some reason I didn't want to look at it, wasn't even curious! And It didn't even bother me that I was still in the house alone with it. I just shut the door and walked away.

WHO wrote "Jenny lives here forever" on the door?

Thanks for the links! I can't wait for a lonely night to read them and scare myself!!!! :D

Hehe, thanks. Glad you enjoyed the Jenny story :D And it was Jenny herself who wrote that message on the door, when she was alive, that is.
