You should be ashamed of yourselfs for not putting a topic about a legendary band! :jk:

Anyway...to make my gush of happiness and joy short...and I mean short (You don't want to read my page of how much I love The Beatles do you?)
I just wanna say

P.S.
If any of you say anything about their drug addictions and their drug songs, please don't. I'm sick about talking about drugs.
And don't mention that Michael Mutant Jackson owns them now.
Please don't rub it in. It makes me die a little inside. :(

I would kill to have an original record from the Beatles Age. So far I have 4 CD's and my favorite song (Currently....) is Love You To written by George Harrison. I love how he plays the sitar. =B

I might look on ebay and find some records or something.

Beatles is LOVE.

We have a few albums, and me and my dad love to sing Hey Jude when he drives me to school. He used to sing it to me when I was a baby!

The Beatles have stood the test of time. They are the rock GODS!

It is definitely possible to find some of the records inexpensively. Lots of people don't know their value or don't care. Good luck!

Not meaning to offend any of you guys but I find the Beatles to be a tad overrated. I mean, I think some of their songs really are fabulous (like, I love Let It Be) but others not so much... and sometimes I feel like people just love them because they feel like they're supposed to, you know? Being that they were so iconic and practically worshipped back in the day... Beatlemania.

Well I am a true fan of The Beatles and totally love their music not because I need to because I want to. If they were just a small band that didn't have 27 singles I would still love them. That's all I'm gonna say before we start another uproar in the forums.

I love the Beatles. <3

Nobody's mentioned A Hard Day's Night yet, which was the prototype for the music video and a really cute and bubbly movie, despite (or perhaps due to) its plotlessness.

I'm into a lot of different music for a lot of different reasons. Having an interest in history fuels that a lot of the time and the Beatles (as well as many other artists of the time) are no exception. Many many bands, singers, designers, painters, artists in general are very popular and perhaps overrated but that doesn't mean one shouldn't love them or at least appreciate what they brought to the table. :)

Okaay, I just went to see Across the Universe, and I loved it!
It's an amazing visionary film, and I'd put in the must see films this year.

(Plus, it's named after my second favorite Beatles song)

Some of it was timing. I mean, Kennedy had just been shot and America was looking for a distraction. Also, musically they changed a lot of stuff. I mean, they basically took rock from sounding like stuff just for teenagers and matured it up a bit. I mean, they did a lot of technical stuff too! You used to only have four tracks to record on, back in the day. Today we have almost two hundred tracks. So they could only do a limited amount of things. The Beatles wanted to do MORE. They weren't happy with just what they were already doing. Their Producer, George Martin, would often be told things like they wanted it to sound larger, and George had to find a way to do that with still only having four tracks. Stolen from Wikipedia:

"At any given point in the recording process, any number of existing tracks can be "sub-mixed" into one or two tracks and the original tracks erased, making more room for more tracks to be reused for fresh recording. Beatles producer George Martin used this technique extensively to achieve multiple track results, while still being limited to using only multiple four-track machines, until an eight-track machine became available during the recording of the Beatles' White Album. The Beach Boys' Pet Sounds also made innovative use of multitracking with 8-track machines of the day (1965-66).[citation needed]

Multitrack recording also allows any recording artist to record multiple "takes" of any given section of their performance, allowing them to refine their performance to virtual perfection. A recording engineer can record only the section being worked on, without erasing any other section of that track. This process of turning the recording mechanism on and off is called "punching in" and "punching out"."

...So they helped to create that process. That's just a tiny portion of what they did to change music. I mean, if you don't like the songs, that's fine...but you should at least be able to give credit on a job well done.

ok well i understand that then, credit where credit is due i suppose :) .

Man, I read this thread again because
I've just been losing interest in them now.
It kind of makes me wonder if they ever cared about
people or were even nice or polite. They did smoke...and do drugs, and um...drink, but that's not the point.
I mean, just cause they sing about love and loving a girl
doesn't mean they weren't money-grabbing spoiled kids from Liverpool who couldn't care less about a girl's personality and care about her pretty face and empty brain, if you know what I mean.
I don't know, I've just wondered what they were really like without the songs of Love and Peace.
I know John had a couple problems, no, A LOT of problems, but maybe fame just hides a lot about people. Just saying...

Even if the Beatles weren't perfect, they set the stage for modern rock. If you look at Across the Universe it depicts their songs really well. and gives you more perspective as to what some of them mean. Also i don't find people doing drugs as such a bad thing. I don't know...i mean I'd never do drugs, but i don't mind if other people did.

I guess I never really cared about what they were really like. I mean, it's hard to believe they were really those silly happy-go-lucky guys from "Help" all the time, or they didn't live a rockandroll lifestyle. Sex, drugs, and rock and roll right? That is a lifestyle, and they were most popular during a time when not only a drug revolution, but a sexual revolution was taking place. As far as whether they really cared for a girl-Paul McCartney and Linda? John and Yoko? Those two couldn't have been more passionate about their ladies. I'm sure a great deal of their music, especially their later work was truly heartfelt. But most importantly, them aside, how does the music make you feel and what does it mean to you?

They were apparently stoned for pretty much the entire filming of "Help!", and I'm not going to lie-- that explains a lot.

Honestly, it's kind of important to separate the work from the artist and appreciate them independently. People are flawed, and the average artist is a very complex character. People still like Degas' ballerinas, despite his famous misogyny, for instance...

I definitely agree with that. I'm afraid that most things entertaining and artistic would not be very enjoyable if I based my opinions on the person(s) behind them alone.

i disagree with this
why would you listen to it just because you feel like you are supposed to?that sounds a bit crazy to me.Most people rebel against things that restrain them and obviously all these people are still liking the beatles because they do make some great music. If you dont like it than dont like it and move on like the rest of us.

I totally agree with what Lavenderlemon is saying. if you believe in something because you feel like you should then you're not really believing in it. Now there's a difference if people feel they should respect the Beatles because they feel they are supposed to. weather they actually respect them or not.

Well, they definitely had their personal problems and problems as a band (especially John), and well...I haven't had the same respect for Paul after he married Heather Mills (what was he thinking?), but I think as they matured as people they projected some of their good intentions into what they did.
Like, John really cared about people. From what I know, he was a total assmunch to his first wife but after he married Yoko he...matured a lot. Did his whole peace campaign thing and all that.
I always had an impression of George as a pretty nice guy, and I saw Ringo and Paul on Larry King Live over the summer (don't ask) and they seemed like very nice people--stupid in their hey day, but not jerks.

On that note, I can totally relate to losing interest in a band you thought you'd love forever! I'm not kidding when I say I've gotten stressed out over that...o_O I don't say I have a favorite band anymore, my interests just change too quickly @_____@;;

I've always loved the Beatles! I went a bit insane in high school buying almost all of their albums on CD. I don't have a favorite album because I enjoy listening to their albums, hearing how they changed in their music as well as their characters.

I love the Beatles, in a scarily obsessed way.
I'm coming close to owning enough books on them to start a Beatles themed library.

Yeah, I know, I've thought similar things through myself. To be honest, I got past it on the strength purely of their songs. I think they were just normal people, which is easy to forget. They came from relatively poor backgrounds, so I think money is a big thing, especially back then when there was a big divide between rich and poor.
They did care about people though, and I really think they believed in peace and love. I mean, most people did because of certain things they were taking.
But I don't believe they were all about looks and no brain. I mean, John married Yoko because he believed he could talk to her on a similar level. And as for the others, I don't know much about their personal lives, John's was always the one that got most interest.
I could talk about the Beatles for a long time and I'll start to contradict and annoy myself so I'm gonna stop.
;)

My favorite song is split between "Hey Bulldog" off the Yellow Submarine soundtrack and "When I'm 64" off of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band and "Maxwell's Silver Hammer" from the Abbey Road album. I'm actually a fan of their later stuff, not so much the sugar-filled songs from their earlier years.

Apparently there's a new song (well, old song) the Beatles recorded which is being released or something.
There was a radio programme with Paul McCartney, but I completely forgot the listen to it, so I'm looking it up.
Anyone who's interested, it was on BBC radio 4.
