i will be moving(for the first time on my own ever!) in less than a month, and i'm looking for cheap and of course cute ways to decorate. if anyone has any suggestions, i would love love love to hear them. i'm leaning towards going to way of a slightly gothic/victorian look.

i'm pretty crafty, so give me some ideas!

There's a store called Delia*s that has extremely cute decorating stuff, and it has an almost Neo-Lolita look. (I love their clothes, too!)

But for something more crafty, I always like to retouch old, Victorian Vanity mirrors (round, square, whathaveyou) and hang them on a wall. You tape paper covering the actual mirror, clean off the frame, then spraypaint it however you like!

You can use whatever colour or texture!

It's hard to decorate cheap! I'm trying to do it too.

I guess things like paint can be cheap, and you can pick up all kinds on inexpensive fabrics to dress things up with in a way that looks cute without breaking the bank. I guess target is your best friend to and ebay, so much cute stuff for very little!

I'm so excited for you moving out on your own, how's the place you found?

For the Victorian part, some antique shops have great furniture pieces for cheap...emphasis on "SOME!" You can sometimes find cheap stuff at antique malls, and always at thrift shops if you're feeling lucky. I thrifted all of my apartment stuff. In my old room, I had a turn-of-the-century vanity that I found for $150, and I've seen similar pieces sold for much cheaper. Too bad I had to leave that one behind. :(

Fabric stores have fun, frilly stuff for a few bucks a yard.

Enjoy your own place! I'm still getting used to it...it's really a strange feeling.

i've looked at delia's stuff before, it is cute! i am looking for more things i can do myself though.

i love your mirror idea. i think i have one that has a terrible gold trim that could do to have a new paint job!

target has their halloween stuff out, and i'm finding that i can use some of it year round. i'm addicted to their stuff. i'm also trying to figure out a way to use fabric scraps to make some sort of wall art.

i haven't actually found the place! i am moving about an hour and 15 minutes away(i got a promotion through work!), and i'm in the process of looking. Hopefully i will have a more concrete idea of which apartment i will end up with on thursday. i'm working with a realtor right now that's been super helpful.

my best friend's husband's aunt(whew that was complicated) contacted me, and she used to own a shop that sold antique/vintage/unique furniture and accessories and everything in between. she told me her garage is still full of stuff and i can come over and take my pick! i'm so excited, i'll let you know what treasures i find.
