If you're like me, you'll need a big book to read over the summer. one that you've put off till now, because it's a book you need to take the time to enjoy and become engrossed in it. For me, this book is Shogun by James Clavell. Any projects for you?

my summer book project isn't so much one book as a collection of books. i'm reading all of the books connected w/ Lost. Shogun sounds intresting, how is it so far?

yeah I don't have one big project; my friends and I just recently started doing a book/movie thing, where we're going to read a book and watch the movie that was adapted from it. Started with Timeline last week, now moving onto Congo [I don't know why all the Crichton LoL].

I just picked up Howl's Moving Castle by Dianne Wynne Jones. I'm one of those people that has to read the book after watching the movie and vice versa. I'm also going to read a bunch of Anne Rice novels starting with Blood and Gold. Between my novels I fill in the gaps with manga. ;)

Howl's Moving Castle is pretty good! It's rather different from the movie, but still good.
Which other Annie Rice novels are you planning to read, Luna? As far as the Vampire Chronicles go, I thought that from Merrick and on she started to lose her touch... and her.. sanity...

Diana Wynne Jones has awesome in her veins instead of blood.
I'm planning to read Kite Runner, not /just/ because everyone's told me too, and so many others. I'm a notorious bookworm...

I actually plan on reading the rest of The Vampire Chronicles if my library has them. I also wish to read The Queen of the Damned, The Vampire Lestat, and Interview with a Vampire. I just hope I have the time...

Luna, read them in order if you can :D I think the three that you listed are the best, and they are basically 3 2 and 1. Good stuff!
And agh I totally forgot to say, PinkPorcelain, please update when u have read the LOST books, because I was considering it but thought it was too much of a tie in. Let us know if they are good~!!

My summertime book project is to work my way through the huge pile I've purchased and not got around to reading yet. I love buying books, but in the last couple of years due to work etc. I've bought far more than I've actually read!

I'm plowing through The Picture of Dorian Grey - a chapter every night. I love this book *_*
I do want to read more, and I do have a huge Oscar Wilde book that I want to read. This summer, though, I want to focus more on my writing. ^^;

Once I've finished today's bout of cleaning I'm going to start Cloud of Sparrows by Takashi Matsuoka. I'm looking forward to it, I haven't had the free time to just sit and enjoy a good book for ages!

I'm rereading Harry Potter in prep for book seven, of course (I would love to be able to write like that...)
But mostly I'm reading poetry. Anyone else a poetry person? I'm partway through Milton's Paradise Lost, and I want to start Dante's Purgatory. I love old literature, but the poets are my favorites. I reccomend Paradise Lost to everyone--but especially if you're Christian. It's more interesting that way.

Memoir's of a Geisha and Kamikaze Girls.
And manga of course. But besides that I'm not really into reading over the summer...it just makes me feel like I'm in school again... and I hate school.

too many to name
My friend brought me books, I brought me books, and my family did that I haven't got to reading yet b/c I had school. Now since I'm free I've been reading the basque history of the world and I finished battle royale at the start of the summer. Almost though HP7 (pg519) and the other big books I have to read this summer are The Tale Of Genji unabridged, the coming of the third reich, and the vampire chronicler's up book 6 I think. I also need to read, 1k and 1 nights, illiad, food politics, dracula, halo: ghost of onyx, the life of Pi, PenDragon (I think, can't see the titel well from where I'm sitting), Natasha's Dance, history of russian cultule, the Prince by macivelli, manga, the pigman, darkside of the moon, the silver wolf, some JDStalinger, anime info/manga info boks, and loads of other stuff that I can't see from my bed.

Oof, well my friends' and my original plan to watch movies linked with books ended and was derailed by Harry Potter; in the end only two of us really did it, and after book 5 followed by movie 5, I got swept up in reading book 6 before book 7 came out and my friend followed suit. So yeah, (re-)read Harry Potter 5-7. I've read a lot since then, but mostly comic books and manga. I read M is for Magic by Neil Gaiman, which was disappointing because I'd already read all but maybe 1 or 2 of the stories >.<*
So my next 'project' is to get Interworld by Neil Gaiman and check that out, though I'm currently re-reading How to Make Love! the Bruce Campbell Way, by Bruce Campbell of course.
Also, I've found the 'books' application on Facebook to be very useful, if anyone uses that. It's fun to keep track of what you've read [and also I do the same with the movies application!].
