So I have no real training in sewing, never really learned the right way but figured what worked for me. I've started to make cat hats that I'm going to sell at school and Otakon, and it was a real experiment in sewing to get these done and figured out. (this is the one my friend Ash is getting, it's cute and she really likes how it looks)

So now's your turn, what are you experiments in sewing, and how was it to try and figure stuff out?

Haha... My first project was a dress.

A frilly pink dress.

Momma said to start with a headband, or a hat. I started with a dress. :] It actually turned out pretty good, too! I still have it (I decided not to do the frills) in my closet. lol. This summer, I made a kimono out of this gorgeous red cloth w/ black chinese characters all over. The obi was black with tiny red sakura flowers. It was SO HARD trying to figure out how to do the collar. (one should note that I am NOT the most patient person in the world) But I did wear it on Halloween, and it went over really well at my school.

Something I learned about sewing obis:
An 9 foot straight line is NOT something I like doing. :]

my first sewing adventure was actually last saturday! i sewed a button on one of my old teddies and i fixed the straps on his overalls XD i was very proud. next i think i'll be making a pillow...i'll be sure to make it lolita-like of course. then some puppets and hopefully i'll get to making my own loli clothing!

Pillows are the best hing to learn sewing on, you get the basics and can you a verity of stitches, go around corner, embroider if you want and any mistakes you make are on the inside.

^_^ I can see now, a cute white victorian loung couch with pink, black and white lacy pillows all over it. Heck, they'd look cute on a bed or chair.

yeah that's what my friend said. it'll be pretty easy to do a loli pillow seeing as my room is already pretty girly and pink(though i hate pink...) and my curtains are rainbow colours so anything will go muah ha ha! i like your kitty hat nikko :D so colourful and cute ^^

I've sewn two pillows, one shaped like a K and one that is patchwork with nine squares on either side. I've also sewn a sort of little book bag...I can't find the words to explain it really. I did those for Home Ec. in middle school. I wish we had that in high school so I could get a little more into sewing.

I love the hat there, it's so cute. ^w^

Right now, I'm starting a summer yukata made out of this cute light pink fabric printed with pastries and letters that say "chocolate is good medicine". Eventually, I'm hoping to pair it with some sort of pink and white obi. I'm not terribly experianced, but I have a pattern and my mom says she'll help. Wish me luck! ;)

well the first thing I ever sewed was a button thats all my mom taught me now Ive made myself a mini cape made out of scrap fabric lying around in my closet, a vest made out of 2 old costumes (it's plain red on the outside then it has lace up thing in the front and under that it's pink leperd print), a skirt thing out of the extra pink leperd print (It's like the white part of cinderella's dress in the disney movie I was obsessed with when I was little .... I still am), a mini kimono like dress for my mom's old dolls she played with when she was little

but most of the stuff I make is normally made out of duct tape
I've made a duct tape vest, at least 15 duct tape purses, a duct tape pencil skirt(REALLY HARD TO WALK IN), a duct tape hooker skirt ( i wear it over jeans that's why I made it), a very messed up duct tape wallet ( I am innept at making wallets), and a neclace

I've been brushing up on all of my sewing in general for a job I'm going for at a vintage boutique...just basic (and unreasonably difficult!) repairs on clothes I got at thrift stores that were cheap because they weren't in great condition.

Right now I'm fixing up a poofy, yellow gingham 50's dress, and after that I'm doing some work on a red 40's cape I found the other day. Woo!

In middle school home ec, I sewed a cute bunny with the voicebox of a growling dog inside of it. It's my favorite.
