View Full Version : Your stress foods?

So, it's finals week, and today, between my normal meals I ate two bagels, three slices of toast, three cups of tea, and a lot of canned fruit and Goldfish crackers. These are all of the foods I eat when bored or nervous. What are your comfort snacks? Am I the only one who gorges myself on refined wheat products?
Tell me, please, because we're out of bagels and Goldfish. XP

Oh no, I absolutely do to. I used to eat peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and mandarin oranges like they were going out of style- and coffee. LOADS of it. That habit is long gone thankfully, but the mandarin oranges will always be my best friend.

mandarin oranges too when I can get them too and vast quantities of De-caf tea!
There was a study that just came out of the Uk that says drinking black tea helps people calm down. I can'tremember why, but always worth a shot!

As Anne Lamott says, before your book gets published, "you drink a pitcher full of martinis just to take the edge off, or you've quit drinking, so you eat your body weight in pastries and Mexican food."

totally stressed out by schoolwork and the rush of career fair/finding internships [which I SUCK and have been failing miserably at, thus increasing the amount of pressure], I've been eating a lot of chocolate cookies [the expensive kind from pepperidge farm.. specifically Rialto chocolate raspberry, they're so yummy] and, oddly enough, slices of american cheese :( So~~~~ unhealthy but I'd rather die of high cholesterol or something before I die of work-related stress~~~ I don't want an internship but I need one~~~~~~~~~~ :(
lets see....cookies help out....milk....ramen....fruit... cha-co cake....
um....smoothies!!!!!!!!
crackers....goldfish... :D :yum:

I would eat healthy food, like salads, but they all have to have some kind of bread with them. So during finals I go to panera *nods* Good place to go. I also have tea and cookies.

When I get home late from work and need something to get me through cooking dinner, I eat hummus on corn chips! We almost always have it in our fridge, so it's almost always what I grab. Not really bad for you, but slightly weird. I don't crave sweets or things like potato chips or french fries; I crave really good salads and hearty soups. This of course is problematic in itself because I am married to a man who could live on ham sandwichs.

Two words. Peanut Butter! :D My parents have caught me on many occasions during *mytimeofthemonth* sitting in front of the tv with my hand in a jar of Peanut Butter *Imagine Winnie the Pooh*>.<. It always makes me feel better for some reason. :D

I adore frosting. . .When I'm stressed and want something sweet I a make a sort of tea sandwich by spreading some frosting on a piece of wholewheat bread (with the crust cut off, of course). :yum:

I eat whatever I can get my hands onto. Especially pastries. Mmm, pastry.
But because of the high fat content in afore mentioned product, I try to keep lots of fruit in my place during high stress time...like exams, which I am also facing right now. Strawberries covered in coolwhip may not be a high sugary, baked good, but it is a good craver buster. Just try to be easy on the coolwhip.

Haha, I didn't really know this about myself, but with the stress of college apps, taking the ACT and getting ready for my India trip (I leave tomorrow!!!), I've been eating Mexican food EVERYDAY.
Mmmmmm, stuffed sopapillas, fresh tortilla chips with manga salsa fresca, nachos with beans and cheese and all that good stuff.

I tend to go for Cheez-its and apples <3 ;)
Chocolate. Chip. Cookies. MY WEAKNESS. And TONS of diet ice tea, I've been known to consume a gallon within a day when extremely stressed... *sighs*
Other faves include:
* Goldfish
* Toast or toasted bagels with salted butter. I put extra salt on the butter because my blood pressure can crash and it gets really low so I need to put it back up... hee hee!!!!
* Apples.... they apparently keep you awake.
* Cinnamon Toast Crunch or chocolate cereal

I love to snack on sweets, so it's probably a good thing my house doesn't usually have them. >_<
Other than that, I also like toast and fruit. Right now, we have an abundance of mandarin oranges and persimmons. :yum:

My big stress foods are chocolates, Oreos (Double-stuff'd), pop tarts, and whatever I can find in the breadbox. I go into sugar and carb mania if I'm in the eating-stressed kind of mood. If I'm in a non-eating stressed kind of mood, I'm lucky if I can eat anything at all! :(

Feeling stressed out right now from baby sitting and knowing I have a truckload of homework due Monday( and procrastinating with 5 different forums...) I wish I could have Mint Milanos. Or some good Shrimp Pasta... that would make me feel really good right now.

depending on how I'm craving I like...
Sun Chips (original flavor, in the blue bag)
semi-sweet dark-chocolate
diet cherry Coke
ice-cream (chocolate, cookies & cream, coffee)
popcorn
Girl Scout cookies!
I need to mix up what I'm having though. I can't have 2 things that are way too similar too close together.

Strawberries and Creme Frappucuinos

I used to eat ice cream but I would eat the whole pint and that's not good. Now I eat popcorn and/or bananas :) . I just can't eat sweets when I'm stressed or I eat too much and i'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who does that.

I asked my mom to pick me up something chocolatey on her way home from snowmobiling (I'm the only one in the house who doesn't enjoy it, so I stay home) and she brought me a chocolate gelato from Olive Garden, along with the dinner she ordered. it's chocolate gelato with caramel topping and dark-chocolate bits on top! so goooooooood.

I've been super, super stressed for the last week...and all I can think about is NEW MEXICAN FOOD.
What am I going to do when I move to the Northwest? I think I'll have to order the Hatch green chile in bulk.

I like to eat baggettes. You know, french bread in the long loafs? My parents don't eat white bread anymore so I'm sad. Whenever I get stressed I like to chew on the ends. I also like chocolate on chocolate Joe's O's (all natural Oreos).

When I get super stressed, I actually eat less. But the things I do eat are pasta and chocolate. I love dark chocolate, and any kind of good pasta is a comfort food for me, particularly macaroni & cheese or ramen. Also, Nutella on toast.

Me too. I think I weighed 95lbs during my last finals week, as a result of studying like crazy with few breaks, working 30 hours a week, having two PE classes (one cardio) five times a week, and just losing my appetite because of the stress. Eeek! I'm going to try harder to keep my weight on this semester.
I'm also a carb fiend. Pasta is the best!

My main stress food is pizza, depending on what mood I'm in... either this place called Cici's Pizza, where they have mac 'n cheese pizza, or Starvin' Marvin where I get a feta cheese and tortilla chip pizza. ^_^

Haha, the Cici's in your area must be much better than the ones in Albuquerque. That place was so ghetto!
Feta and tortilla chip? Ahh, that sounds amazing! Maybe I'll make a similar concoction when I can use my teeth again. :yum:

You have to bake it all together on the pizza, so the chips are all crisp and crunchy. The only problem is that it's AMAZING when fresh, and pretty bad when it's been in the fridge and re-heated.

I can imagine, tortillas tend to get soggy after a bit :(
