I picked the first one of these up the other week, and it's great! it rally fills the "will they won't they but who!" gap Hot Gimmick left behind.

I have to give this manga series one word: Innocence.
That's what I love about this series, although I only read the first one. I would be reading #2 BUT THE STUPID LIBRARY ONLY CARRIES THE ODD NUMBERS OF THE SERIES. That's why I hate it when I HAVE to go to the library and I'm poor. -_-;
But I still love the series =]

Why don't you look for manga scans? :) :nerd:

I picked up volume 6 from the library and I was really hoping not to like it since it is such a long series. I'm very picky about my manga reading, as it is a rather expensive past time. Talk about falling in love with something you wanted to hate! My husband calls it "my story" (as in my soap opera)! I was hooked; luckily I was able to get several volumes at local used bookstores and then a couple from the library. At the begining of the series, I didn't like Momiji much but the taller he has gotten, well let's just say I have a soft spot in my heart for that little bunny! He's such a cutie pie, I just want to hug him. I identify most with Hana and Shigure (I'm a year of the dog!) and am probably most interested in Hatsuharu and Rin's relationship. I love Ayame, how could you not? :yum: Yes, I am most definitely hooked and when it ends, I'm sure I will be very sad to see it go!

I'm going to adopt Momiji, only he doesn't know it yet. << >>

*gasp* Fruits Basket was my very first manga! So it will always hold a special place in my heart. My favourite is Haru (Hatsuharu, if you prefer)!! His split personality always keeps me on the edge and its adds a whole new level of depth to his character. Plus, his indifferent tone just helps to make situations even funnier. My 26-year-old friend Megan - who also is our town's librarian ;) - keeps buying every new issue from amazon.ca, and soon she's going to be getting volume 16! *squeeeeeeeeee!* Although I have to admit that around volume 10 the series starts to get EXTREMELY angsty... :(

In the later volumes (about 10+) it really gets quite absorbing, very dark too...You wouldn't exspect something so cute to get so angsty. It's a very original story though! Volume 11 made me cry...it's a must read! The series is too good to miss everyone!

I hear so much about this one. I guess I should check it out. Do I have read Hot gimmick first?

nope, hot gimmick is a completely different manga by a different authour...hot gimmick was just mentioned, they have nothing to do with each other really :D except they're both shoujo.

I read Hot Gimmick first and picked up Fruits Basket to fill the Hot Gimmick hole once I'd finished the series.
The 2 are unrelated so you can ready which every first, but i do think if you like the one you'll like the other!

excellent manga. The best selling shojo manga in America for a reason. I do not know the volume I'm up to and can't describe b/c of so many spoilers but I am very far. I have a lot of Furuba memorabilia and I even put a kyo doll on my moms doorknob and she hasn't taken it off yet, it's so cute b/c it's kyo all chibi dressing in a orange cat costume!

:o Anyone else reeling from the Volume 17 of Fruits Basket? Tuesday is my day off so I got it the day it came out and spent the afternoon on the couch! I don't want to give anything away to people that haven't read it yet, but my goodness, I did not see that coming!

i love fruits basket! but unfortunatly it will probably be christmas before volume17 is available to buy here(they are so slow to get in new books). but i dont think i will be too surprised about anything as a few months ago i accidently ruined the story on myself by reading about it on wiki(there were spoiler warnings but i just wasnt able to stop myself), i was really shocked at the time cause there are some really great plot twists in there. cant wait for the next volume. :D
