... You can't sleep, to try to get to sleep? I like to go over basic math problems over and over till I sleep. I knew math was good for something!

i read, it always lulls me to sleep, or i paint- there's something about that that i feel as though ive done something worthwhile AND it tires me.

I dont normally have a problem sleeping though. ;)

Drinking a mug of hot chocolate/plain milk before going to bed or listening to some new age music/white noise (sounds of nature/running water/whatnot) usually helps for most people. However, the remedies I mentioned don't help me often since I have actual long-term insomnia. Whenever I try to fall asleep, so many thoughts run through my head that I just lay there with my eyes shut for many hours and not being able to sleep. And whenever I DO manage to get to sleep, it's usually for only about 6 hours, and it'd be during improper times. It's rare that I manage to get in 10 hours of uninterrupted sleep. :(

I have tried some prescribed sleep medication, including some of the stronger nasty-tasting kind, but they've just managed to make me feel groggy and shitty. Now I'm thinking of trying that Lunesta stuff. Anyone out there ever tried it?

I read until I get tired. Which may take a while, especially if it's a good book but I figure if I can't sleep I wasn't that tired to begin with. And being tired the next day ensures that I'll have no sleeping problems that night. ^^

Indeed! I usually go for a walk which isn't really very safe, but it really helps. In fact, I find that walking helps me not only sleep, but it also calms my temper if I'm in a bad mood or if I got in a fight. It even helps think of ideas if I'm working on a project or painting. Other than walking, I usually day(night?)dream or watch a movie and just fall asleep on the sofa. Varekai is the best movie ever to fall asleep to *loves cirque du soliel*...

I get up and watch tv with no sound or do some kind of excercise for a little while...but tv with no sound is really boring, so that helps hehehe

Walking is the best thing on earth. I used to love walking through the city at night when I was in the UK Either walking os skating, even during the day. I just find it very relaxing and centering. I think walking is the thing I miss the most about England.
